Palm Oil

Say NO to Palm Oil

Have you heard about an important ingredient known as Palm Oil that is used in every second product?

Whether it is in cosmetics, a jar of any chocolate spread or even biofuel, this ingredient is present in multiple products we use throughout the day.

Let’s dive into why we shouldn’t be using products that contain palm oil.

  1. Palm oil has a high level of saturated fats

Palm oil contains approximately 44% palmitic acid (saturated), 5% stearic acid (saturated), 39% oleic acid (monounsaturated), and 10% linoleic acid (polyunsaturated). Consumption of palm oil over a long period of time often leads to an increase in the risk of heart diseases such as stroke, heart attack and high cholesterol. This often happens due to the hardening and thickening of arteries. Let’s beware from the beginning and be extremely mindful of the ingredients we consume daily.

      2.  Palm oil destroys the rainforest

Palm oil comes from the fruit of oil palm trees. The sharp increase in the demand for palm oil over the last two decades has caused a high level of deforestation. This has led to the displacement of a large amount of biodiversity from their natural habitat. In turn, greenhouse gas emissions are released into the atmosphere which has been followed by climate change.

Why is palm oil still being used if it is so bad?

Palm oil is extremely versatile in nature. It is very economical for companies to refine it from the cheap liquid to its solid state. Hence, it has a high demand and is used in fifty per cent of the products present in a supermarket. Palm oil is pervasively used in personal care and cleaning products and it provides the foaming agent in nearly every soap, shampoo, or detergent. Around 70% of personal care products including soap, shampoo, makeup, and lotion, contain ingredients derived from palm oil. However, there are more than 200 different names for these palm oil ingredients and only 10% of them include the word “palm".

Jindal Cocoa believes in using quality products which lead the team to perform extensive research to make sure none of our products contain palm oil.

Our delicious range of chocolate sauce, spreads and drinking chocolate are all made from the best ingredients sourced with care.
